Should I Sell My House?
So, you feel like it’s time to move, but you keep asking yourself, Should I really sell my house? After all, there’s so much history packed inside those four walls—not to mention all your stuff. Your house is the most valuable possession you own in more ways than one.
There’s a lot of uncertainty out there in the housing market, and the news sure isn’t helping. You probably have questions about whether you should sell your house now or wait another year or longer.
The fact that you’re asking questions is a good thing. You’re thinking about your situation rather than giving into the confusion out there. No matter what, selling your home is a big decision. After all, selling at the right time can be a boost to your finances and your lifestyle. While selling at the wrong time can cause trouble for years to come.
But if you’re thinking about selling, there’s no sense in waiting to see if the value of your home will double in the next year or two. The short answer is: It won’t. You should probably sell now . . . if you’re ready.
Should I sell my house now or wait?
Deciding whether it’s the right time to sell your home can be perplexing. There are numerous important questions to sort through, both financial and personal, before putting your home on the market.
Rising home prices, buyer demand and interest rate increases are just some of the factors to bear in mind. But it’s also important to ask yourself whether you’re ready to move — and if you’ll be able to find another home that fits your budget in a highly competitive market.
According to Fannie Mae’s most recent Home Purchase Sentiment Index, about 51 percent of consumers believe that now is a good time to sell. Here are some key considerations to help decide whether it’s the right time for you. READ MORE
4 Things to Consider Before Selling Your Home
When To Sell
If you’re still unsure how to decide when the right time to sell is, here are a few points to consider that may help you reach an answer.
If Interest Rates Are Low
If mortgage interest rates are low, it might be a good time to sell your home and find a new one. Lower interest rates mean you pay less in interest – or, in other words, save more money financing your new house.
Low rates can also be a double-edged sword for homeowners, though. They often create a lot of demand, since buyers will be looking to take advantage of low rates.
This means that you can potentially sell your home at a great profit, but you may struggle to find and purchase a new home after that due to high demand. If you’re not worried about buying and selling a house at the same time, though, a period with low rates is a great time to sell your house.
