Mortgage rate forecast for next week (March 14-18)
After decreasing for the first time in a month, mortgage rates had a big drop.
The average 30–year fixed interest rate fell from 3.89% on Feb. 24 to 3.76% on March 3.
High inflation and elevated consumer spending drove significant interest rate growth to start 2022. However, the Russian invasion of Ukraine caused uncertainty in global markets and led to two consecutive weekly decreases.
Next week’s Federal Reserve meeting should provide clarity around how rates will generally move through the rest of March.
Aside from the Ukrainian conflict casting uncertainty into global markets, all other major indicators point to mortgage rate growth.
The most likely outcome will be average interest rates on an overall uptrend in the next three months. Of course, they have high variability and rarely go in a straight line from week to week so we could even see some drops mixed in as well. READ MORE

- Russia’s war in Ukraine has led to more volatility in financial markets, leading to big swings in rates the past few weeks.
- Despite the increases, rates remain near historic lows. Experts say buyers should focus on getting the best rate they can rather than trying to time the market.
